Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 1:27-30a
Today’s Bible passage says, “But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things
of this world and the despised things-and the things that are not-to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus…”
What an amazing statement! Here are a few examples of the “weak” and “lowly” and “despised people that God has used to bring about the perfect salvation that He offers to us:
* Rahab, a prostitute, was an ancestor of Jesus.
* Samson, though blind and imprisoned, destroyed many of God’s enemies.
* Elijah, who was bald, delivered powerful prophecies.
* The slave owned by Naaman’s wife was only a little girl.
* John the Baptist, a simple man who word clothes made of camel’s hair and ate locusts, paved the way for Jesus, Himself.
These examples aren’t exceptions. They are the rule. Even the Apostles Peter and John were simple, ordinary men. Acts 4:13 says this about them: “When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.”
None of these people was beautiful, rich, powerful, or terribly talented. They were simple people, yet God used each one of them, in spite of their appearance, station in life, weaknesses, past failures, unusual habits, or age.
God will use you to do His work, too, but He won’t force you to do it. If you want to do God’s work for Him, you have to allow Him use you. If you let God use you, He can use you in spite of your appearance, where you work, your weaknesses, past failures, unusual habits, or age. For God, your uniqueness isn’t a handicap; it’s the perfect tool.
“I can do everything through him who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13
Prayer: Heavenly Father, use me to do Your work. I trust You to use my life to Your best advantage. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
