Bible Reading: Job 34:4 & Proverbs 13:16
Job 34:4 says, “Let us discern for ourselves what is right;
let us learn together what is good.” Then in Proverbs 13:16 we read, “Every prudent man
acts out of knowledge, but a fool exposes his folly.” Wise advice, but, how can you tell when you should give in and follow the “advice” of other people and when you should hold out and follow your gut instinct?
Those kinds of decisions can be tough. Even the great apostles, Peter and Paul had to face them. (See Acts 16 and Galatians 2 for the details.) Sometimes they made the right choice. At other times, they blew it.
There is no foolproof way to know, in every situation, whether to give in or hold out. However, taking the time to think through your options and consider the potential consequences will go a long way to helping you know which way to go. Knowing God’s plan and God’s way of acting and reacting will also help you “act out of knowledge” rather than expose your foolishness.
“Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold.” Proverbs 3:13
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to discern for myself what is right and learn what is good (paraphrase of Job 34:4). In Jesus’ name. Amen.
