Give God Your Undivided Attention

Bible Reading: Nehemiah 8:2

Ezra knew it was important for people to learn from and understand God’s word. Nehemiah 8:2 says, “So on the first day of the seventh month Ezra the priest brought the

Law before the assembly, which was made up of men and women and all who were able to understand.”

How about you? Do you have trouble understanding your pastor’s sermons? Are you easily distracted from his message and find yourself thinking instead about lunch, the TV show you watched last night, or even about the weather?

Here are a few tips to help you give God your undivided attention during worship services.

* Pay attention to the words in the songs you sing before the sermon. Think about what the words mean.

* Silently pray when a prayer is being offered aloud. Ask God to help you concentrate and to teach you.

* Have a paper and pen ready to take notes while the pastor speaks.

* Open your Bible and follow along when scripture is read.

* Concentrate on comparing what the pastor is saying with what the scripture that he’s teaching from says.

* Look for at least one way that you can put the lessons of the sermon into practice, personally, to enhance your Christian life and make you more like Christ.

“Listen and hear my voice; pay attention and hear what I say.” Isaiah 28:23

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I want to give You my undivided attention. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
