Bible Reading: 2 Corinthians 9:6 & 7
The Old Testament law required a person to give a tithe or 10% of his earnings to God.
While giving 10% to God is a reasonable request from God (after all, everything we have already belongs to Him), God would rather have you give Him nothing that to have you grumble about having to give and then give grudgingly.
That’s why, in 2 Corinthians 9:76, Paul wrote, “Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” He wanted us to understand that attitude is everything in relation to giving.
Whatever you give to God – whenever you give to God – give to Him cheerfully. Give to God because you want to thank Him for saving you. Give to God because you want to make Him happy. Give it to God because you love Him.
The next time the offering plate is passed or volunteers are asked for, check your motives for giving your time or money to God. Then give out of your gratitude to and deep love for God.
“Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops.” Proverbs 3:9
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for letting me show You how much I love You by giving me the opportunity to give back to You from the many good things that You’ve given to me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
