Bible Reading: Proverbs 1:7
Knowledge, wisdom, and discernment – these are three more gifts that we receive from God when we turn our lives over to His lordship and care.
Knowledge is possessing facts or information.
Wisdom means having the ability to use knowledge correctly.
Discernment is the ability to decide whether or not an action is wise.
These gifts aren’t one-time gifts. We don’t become knowledgeable, wise, or discerning all at once.
Instead, these are gifts that keep giving. Proverbs 1:7 teaches us that when we turn our lives over to God, we begin to gain knowledge, wisdom, and discernment. This verse reads, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.” As we continue to trust and obey God, following His instructions, and live out His commands, we receive more knowledge, greater wisdom, and deeper discernment.
Here are some other things God uses to help us grow in knowledge, wisdom, and discernment:
1. Listen to others (James 1:19).
2. Know our own limits (Proverbs 3:5).
3. Remain humble (Psalm 147:6).
4. Seek wisdom in the Bible (Psalm 19:7).
5. Ask God for wisdom (Proverbs 2:6).
How wonderful that our infinitely knowledgeable, wise, and discerning God would share His knowledge, wisdom, and discernment with us!
“For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” Proverbs 2:6
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank Your for giving me Your knowledge, Your wisdom, and Your discernment. Help me to use these precious gifts well. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
