Bible Reading: 2 Corinthians 12:9
Two other gifts we receive from God when we welcome Jesus Christ into our lives as our Lord and savior are strength and courage.
While similar, strength and courage are not the same thing. Strength is the ability to do something. Courage is the fortitude or power to follow through and do what God has made us strong enough to do. In other words, we need to be courageous enough to use the strength that God has given to us.
The interesting thing about strength and courage is that the weaker we are, the less able we are, the less capable we are, the more God’s great power – His strength – and capability – courage – can shine through our lives. Verse 9 of today’s Bible reading God said, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” When we aren’t able to do a job, but it gets done anyway. Then we, and those around us, can clearly see who really got the job done: God. God’s strength shines through our weakness!
When we give our lives to Jesus, He gives us His Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit has all of the strength and courage we could possible need to get us through any situation. With the strength and courage of the Holy Spirit, we can stand firm, do what is right, and honor God with our lives, no matter what. We just have to reach out and take hold of God’s gifts of strength and courage and let them fill us.
“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.” 1 Corinthians 16:13
Prayer: Lord God, thank You for the strength and courage You’ve given me through your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
