Gifts from God (2)

Bible Reading: John 1:15 & 16 & Titus 2:11

A model train running around the base of a Christmas tree is a common tradition. We enjoy watching the train circle around and around the tree, watching car after car go by.

The cars seem keep coming, round and round, one after another, after another…after another!

The gift of grace receive from God is a lot like those train cars. God gives us the grace (knowledge, wisdom, strength, His presence, etc.) to cope with a specific situation. When that situation ends, we no longer need that grace, but a new circumstance will enter our lives and, like a train car following a train car, new grace, follows old. When that circumstance and its grace pass us by, a new need comes and with it, another “car” of grace to help us with that need.

Car after car after car.

Situation after situation, after situation.

Grace after grace after grace.

It never ends!

God offers us His gift of grace while we are still sinners rebelling against Him. It’s a gift we don’t deserve. God’s grace gives us a way to receive forgiveness of our sins and eternal life in heaven. God’s grace becomes tangible in Jesus Christ. We receive God’s gift of grace when we accept His Son, Jesus, as our Lord and Savior and accept the sacrifice He made on the cross for our sins. In John 1:15 & 16 John the Baptist describes this ongoing outpouring of grace saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’ Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given.” (Emphasis added). Then, in Titus 2:11 we read, “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men.”

God is offering you grace – forgiveness for your sins and eternal life through faith in Jesus, His death, and His resurrection.

Have you accepted God’s gift of grace? Have you accepted Jesus and the forgiveness of your sins?

“But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God's grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many!” Romans 5:15

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your gift of grace. I have accepted it by confessing my sin accepting Jesus as my Lord and Savior. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
