Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 13:6
“Things aren’t always what they seem.” That cliché may be old, but is contains a biblical truth.
In order to obey God and always act in love, we must root out the truth before we act. (That’s another cliché – “Look before you leap”!) We need to look past the appearance of what we see in that first glance at a situation and learn all of the facts. We need to ask questions – and listen carefully to the answers.
In 1 Corinthians 6:3 we are told that “Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. That means that once we know the truth about a situation, we need to rejoice. We need to be glad that we know the truth, even if we aren’t sure that we like the truth.
Finally, we must act in a way that is appropriate based on the facts of the situation, and whatever action we take we need to make sure that we act out of love.
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.” Philippians 4:8
Prayer: Heavenly Father, open my eyes to the true facts in every circumstance and prepare my heart to accept them. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
