Bible Reading: Romans 5:12
“People are all basically good.”
Many people believe that statement. It’s easier to think that everyone really is good; that some people are just “off track” and simply need some kind of therapy or
rehabilitation to “bring out the good” that’s inside them. Sadly, that belief is a myth.
God says that none of us are good – NOT ONE SINGLE, SOLITARY PERSON on this earth is naturally good. We are all self-serving egotists. That’s what Romans 5:12 says. That verse reads, “Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned.”
God loves us anyway. He sent Jesus, His only Son, to take the punishment that we deserve for not being good. If we believe that, we can be forgiven for not doing the right thing all of the time and, even though we don’t deserve it, we will go to heaven. God will throw the gates open wide and welcome us in spite of our imperfection and lack of goodness.
What do you believe – a myth or The Truth?
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I believe that Jesus was punished because I can’t be good all the time. I’m sorry for my shortcomings. Open the gates of heaven for me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
