Bible Reading: Mark 6:34
Mark 6:34 says, “When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them
many things.”
Compassion is, “feeling for another’s sorrow or hardship that leads to help.”
Compassion goes beyond pity – feeling sad for someone. It also goes beyond sympathy – sharing another person’s sadness.
While compassion starts with pity and sympathy, it moves on to action. Compassion leads to doing things that provide practical help to the hurting person.
Jesus’ entire life was a demonstration of constant, continual compassion. Jesus’ heart ached whenever He saw someone suffering or in any kind of need, but He didn’t stop there.
Having felt their pain, Jesus found practical ways to help hurting people. Jesus –
* Healed the sick and injured.
* Fed the hungry.
* Touched the untouchable.
* Taught those searching for truth.
* Restored life to he lifeless.
Look closely at those around you who are hurting. Allow their pain to sink into your heart and mind. Then find practical ways to help ease the ache in their hearts.
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Colossians 3:12
Prayer: Heavenly Father, use me to ease the ache in the hearts of those around me. In Jesus’ name. Amen
