Bible Reading: Colossians 1:28
When you pick up an egg, you need to exert enough pressure with your hand to hold onto the egg, but if you squeeze too hard, you will crush the egg and end up with a
sticky, gooey mess.
A similar kind of balance exists in bringing others to Christ. While we are reminded in Colossians 1:28 that we are to “proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ.” That means that we need to exert enough pressure on our friends that they realized the need to accept Christ is real. However, we need to take care that we don’t press so hard that we crush their spirit and squelch their desire to know Jesus.
As Paul said in Colossians 1:28, our job is to tell our friends about Jesus and encourage them to accept His salvation. Also when, in Ephesians 4:1b & 2, Paul said, “…I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love,” he was urging us to show the way to Jesus by living in such a way that our friends and family will see God’s love through the love we show to them. We are to leave the final decision to them and allow the Holy Spirit to do the “squeezing” since only He knows exactly how much pressure to put on each individual.
I’m praying that each one of us will courageously tell people about Jesus and demonstrate His love through the actions of our daily lives.
“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:35
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to tell my friends about Jesus and leave the “squeezing” to the Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
