Ditch the Dishonesty

Bible Reading: 2 Corinthians 4:2-3

Nelson’s Bible Dictionary defines dishonesty as “deceit for the sake of profit.”

Has there been a time recently when you tried to “pull one over” on someone? What

profit did you hope to gain?

* Money or possessions?

* Position or power?

* Popularity or fame?

* Honor?

* Love?

* Affection?

* Attention?

God despises dishonesty, even if the “white lie” or “stretching the truth”

or “embellishing to make one look good” is done only in order to try to fit in, belong, or be liked. In Corinthians 4:2 & 3 Paul warned us against dishonesty saying, “Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.”

Regardless of the “profit,” dishonesty is still “deceit for the sake of profit.”

I pray that you and I will live lives of honesty and genuineness so that we will please God in all we do.

“For we are taking pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of men.” 2 Corinthians 8:21

Prayer: Heavenly Father, cleanse my life of all dishonesty. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
