Die to Sin, Live for Righteousness

Bible Reading: 1 Peter 2:24

Before we give Jesus control of our lives, sin has control of us. Sin owns us. We have no choice but to sin and to keep sinning. It is impossible for us to obey God and do what

God wants us to do. As a result, we are dead in our sins – forever hopelessly unable to please God and therefore forever separated from God.

However, there is a way out of being dead in your sins.

First, admit to God that you are a sinner – that you can’t obey God using your own strength and will power – and ask God’s forgiveness. Then accept the truth that Jesus “himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.” When you do, God will send His Holy Spirit to move into your life and live in your heart. Sin will no longer own you. Sin will no longer be able to control your life. With the Holy Spirit in your life, you can choose not to sin. You can choose to do what God wants because the Holy Spirit will give you the strength and courage to choose to obey God.

Won’t you ask God to send His Holy Spirit into your life right now and give you the ability to say, “NO!” to sin?

“That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.” Romans 10:9 & 10

Prayer: Heavenly Father, forgive my sin and send Your Spirit to give me the strength to obey You and say, “No,” to sin. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
