Bible Reading: Psalm 119:16

The Bible is so full of details that we can never fail to find something new in even the most familiar passage, no matter how often you read it or hear it read. You need only to

ask God to show you those details, then open your eyes to see them and open your mind to absorb them. He will bless your effort.

However, when you have gone to church and Sunday school your entire life, it can seem that you have you heard the lessons and sermons so many times that you know them by heart. When that happens, you can become tempted to quit reading your Bible or stop going to church.

Rather than complain that you are bored and tired of hearing “the same old thing,” ask God to show you a new detail each time you hear, read, or study a familiar passage. Claim the prayer of David in Psalm 119:16, “I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word,” as your own and allow God to revive your spiritual life.

Then, begin taking small steps, as God leads, to add zest to your spiritual life. How can you do this? Read a passage you’ve never read before. Memorize a new verse. Begin keeping a Bible Journal. Draw, paint, or write poetry inspired by your favorite Bible passage. Use your imagination. As you take steps toward God, He will take leaps toward you.

“Let your hand rest on the man at your right hand, the son of man you have raised up for yourself. Then we will not turn away from you; revive us, and we will call on your name. Restore us, O LORD God Almighty; make your face shine upon us, that we may be saved.” Psalm 80:17-19

Prayer: Heavenly Father, revive me spiritually. Teach me something new today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
