Bible Verses to Explore: Luke 21:1-4
Hold out your hand, palm up. Imagine you are holding two of your favorite kind of cookies. The only difference between the two cookies is that one of them is larger and
thicker. Now, imagine that someone walked into the room just as you were about to eat those cookies. Which cookie would you share? Which cookie would you keep for yourself?
Now imagine that the person who came into the room was God and he asked for both cookies. Would you give them to Him?
The widow in today's Bible reading did that. She gave God two small coins -- everything she had. Verse 4b says, “This woman is very poor, but she gave all she had to live on.”
Why did she do that? Why was she so willing to give all she had to God and His work?
This widow had the same mindset as Paul who said in Philippians 3:7 & 8, “At one time all these things were important to me. But because of Christ, I decided that they are worth nothing. Not only these things, but now I think that all things are worth nothing compared with the greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. Because of Christ, I lost all these things, and now I know that they are all worthless trash. All I want now is Christ.”
When you asked Jesus to forgive your sins and take control of your life, you promised to give God all of your “cookies,” even your favorite. God wants complete control over everything in your life: the games you plane, the places you go, the books you read the TV shows and movies you watch, EVERYTHING!
Do you have the same mindset as the widow and Paul? Have you kept your promise and given God all of your “cookies” or are you still holding some of them?
Let’s pray together. Heavenly Father, here are all of our cookies, even the favorite ones we were holding back. We want You to have them. Help us to let go. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Thanks for joining me today. Please download the Inductive Bible Study Guide and spend a little more time with today’s scriptures learning to let go and give everything to God.
God bless!
