Bible Reading: Acts 7:23, 24
Moses’ emotions got out of control. Why? “When Moses was forty years old, he decided to visit his fellow Israelites. He saw one of them being mistreated by an Egyptian, so
he went to his defense and avenged him by killing the Egyptian” (Acts 7:23 & 24). He was angry with the Egyptians for enslaving his people for so long. He was frustrated with God for not rescuing them sooner.
Sadly, Moses let his anger and frustrations control him. His impulsiveness cost one man his life, the Israelites another 40 years of slavery, and Moses 40 years of exile in a foreign land separated from those he loved. Had Moses taken the time to seek God’s plan, the result could have been very different.
A few minutes spent talking to God can give us time to cool down and clear our heads. It can help us to be sure that we are acting in a godly way in God’s timing. It can help us control our emotions rather than let them control us.
“Better a patient man than a warrior, a man who controls his temper than one who takes a city.” Proverbs 16:32
Prayer: Heavenly Father, the next time I get angry, help me to remain calm, think clearly, and treat the person with whom I’m angry the way You want me to treat him or her. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
