Christmas Quotes 3: Creator of the Mother He Created

Bible Reading: John 1:1 & Galatians 4:4

“He was created of a mother whom He created. He was carried by hands that He formed. He cried in the manger in wordless infancy, He the Word, without whom all human eloquence is mute.” – Augustine

Augustine wrote these words about Jesus and his mother, Mary. Augustine is telling us that Jesus, God Himself, came to earth as a helpless baby, born of a human mother, Mary.

Then Augustine pointed out that before Mary existed, Jesus existed. John 1:1says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” That Word, the Word that spoke and created world, is Jesus. Jesus is God. Jesus is The Creator of all things. Jesus created Mary. just as He created us and all of the rest of the universe. The hands of Christ made the hands that later held Him as a tiny baby. Mary, came from Jesus.

Then, Jesus came from Mary. Jesus, Creator God of the universe, humbled Himself and was born as a human baby from the womb of Mary, one of His own creations.

What awesome thoughts!

Let’s pause and meditate on these truths for a few moments. Let’s think about our amazing Lord and Savior, His great creative power, and His willingness to set aside that power to live as a human man and sacrifice Himself on the cross for us. That is Christmas.

“But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.” Galatians 4:4 & 5

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Jesus, the Word who created the World, including the woman who later became His mother. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
