Christmas Quotes 2: Christmas Is Not a Myth

Bible Reading: Matthew 1:18-25

“Christmas is not a myth, not a tradition, not a dream. It is a glorious reality.” – Billy Graham

Dreams aren’t real. They are thoughts created in our mind.

Myths are made up stories about things that never happened but which seem bigger than life.

Traditions are beliefs of one generation that are passed on to future generations. Some agree with biblical teachings, others are only human ideas.

Christmas is none of these. While we don’t really know which day of the year Jesus Christ was born, His birth is a fact. Matthew 1:18 starts its record of Jesus’ birth saying, “This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.” You can read more of Matthew’s record of Jesus’ birth in Matthew chapter1. You can read Luke’s record in Luke 2.

These two Bible passages aren’t the only records of Jesus’ birth and life. A number of historical writers have also written about the reality of Jesus having lived here on earth and having been crucified and risen again.

Myths and dreams may not be real. Traditions may come and go. But the birth of Jesus and the Christmas holiday that celebrates that birth are very, very real.

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the wonderful reality of Jesus, His birth, and Christmas, a day to celebrate Jesus’ birth. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
