Christmas Quotes 12: Why Jesus Became a Man

Bible Reading: Matthew 20:20-28

“Jesus Christ became Incarnate for one purpose, to make a way back to God that man might stand before Him as He was created to do, the friend and lover of God Himself.” – Oswald Chambers

Many people thought when the Messiah came, He would come as a king or great warrior to overthrow the Roman government and free the Jewish people from Roman rule.

That isn’t what happened.

In Matthew 20:28 Jesus said this about Himself: “…the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Instead of coming as a powerful person who would have servants, slaves, or soldiers to serve Him, Jesus came as a simple man. He came to serve others. He came to heal sick people. He came to give sight to blind people. He came to give hearing to deaf people. Jesus came to make crippled walk. Jesus came to raise the dead to life. Jesus came to wash feet, to listen, to answer questions, to teach…Most importantly, Jesus came to die in our place so we could receive forgiveness for our sins and live forever in heaven with Him and His Heavenly Father. Jesus came to earth because “God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

As Oswald Chambers said, Jesus came for “one purpose, to make a way back to God that man might stand before Him as He was created to do, the friend and lover of God Himself.” That purpose was His ultimate service to us. Won’t you thank Him by accepting Him as your Lord and Savior right now?

“For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.” 1 Peter 3:18

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Jesus and His ultimate service for me. Teach me to serve people like Jesus served. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
