Christmas Quotes 10: Prepare for Jesus' Return

Bible Reading: Matthew 24:42

“In the same manner in which we clean and prepare our homes in the anticipation of welcomed guests and family members this Christmas season, let us also prepare our hearts in anticipation of the Lord’s coming. Christ, our most honoured and eagerly anticipated guest, desires to meet with us in a heart prepared for his arrival.” – Katherine Walden

What do your Christmas preparations look like? Putting up a Christmas tree? Lots of decorations? Hours of cooking, baking, and candy making? Maybe you read a special Advent devotional series or the Luke 2 Christmas story. Maybe you use an Advent calendar to countdown the days until Christmas. Every family has its own unique way of preparing for Christmas.

As fun and important as it is to prepare for Christmas, it is far more important and enjoyable to prepare for Jesus’ return. Matthew 24:42 warns us to “…keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.” Jesus could return at any moment! Because we don’t know exactly when Jesus will return we should be preparing now. We should be watching, praying, and learning all that God has for us to learn. We should be telling other people how to be saved from their sins so that they can be preparing for Jesus’ return, too.

Are you already preparing to meet Jesus when he returns?

Wonderful! Keep doing what you’re doing.

If you haven’t begun to prepare for Jesus’ return or your preparations have gotten off-track, I encourage you to start again, right now, preparing for the day when Jesus comes back for His own.

“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.” Philippians 3:20

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to prepare for Jesus return. I want to be sure I am ready to meet my Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
