Bible Reading: Luke 2:4
Today in our series on “The Christmas Creed” we will examine the line, “I believe in the one whose spirit glorified a little town; and whose spirit still brings music to persons
all over the world, in towns both large and small.”
This part of the creed is talking about Jesus the part His Holy Spirit played in Jesus’ birth and how the Holy Spirit works in our lives today.
First, the Holy Spirit prepared the small town of Bethlehem – to receive Jesus Christ and His salvation. The small town of Bethlehem is what it is, because of the Holy Spirit’s work in that town, making it ready for the arrival of the baby who would become Savior of the world. Then, when Bethlehem was ready and the time was right, Luke 2:4a says, “So Joseph left Nazareth, a town in Galilee, and went to the town of Bethlehem in Judea.”
Second, the Holy Spirit prepares hearts and minds to understand the gospel of Jesus and be willing to accept it. Without the Holy Spirit’s tugging at our hearts, none of us would be willing to confess our sins or able to accept the forgiveness God offers to us when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
Third, once we have given our hearts and lives to Jesus, the Holy Spirit, He fills our hearts with joy that overflows in song.
I pray that You have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior and that His Holy Spirit is filling you with overflowing joy.
“And you became like us and like the Lord. You suffered much, but still you accepted the teaching with joy. The Holy Spirit gave you that joy.” 1 Thessalonians 1:6
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for salvation through Jesus, His Holy Spirit’s presence in my life, and the overflowing joy He gives to me.. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
