Chariots

Bible Reading: Psalm 20:7

The introduction of chariots as a battle weapon changed the way battles were fought. Chariots enabled armies to move soldiers and weapons into and out of combat

zones quickly. Since most chariots carried two or sometimes three soldiers, one soldier drove the horses while the others were free to shoot their bows and arrows or use their other weapons at will. Soldiers became very dependent upon the chariot. An army using chariots felt it had a definite advantage over an army that didn’t have or use chariots in battle.

Israel’s army, under the command of Joshua, didn’t use chariots. God wanted the Israelites to trust Him. He didn’t want them to have any opportunity to depend more on themselves or their weapons that on God. That’s the point of Psalm 20:7 says, “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.”

What do you have that you rely on? Could you live without it or are you so dependent on it that you would rather handle things without God than try to live without your precious “chariot”?

Put any “chariots” in your life back in their proper place and put your trust first and foremost in God.

“The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song.” Psalm 28:7

Prayer: Heavenly Father, some people trust in things, money, hobbies, self, or other people, I trust in You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
