Bible Reading: Matthew 12:37
When Adam got busted for disobeying God and eating the forbidden fruit, he blamed Eve for his wrongdoing. His own words showed his guilt. Eve passed the buck
to the serpent. Neither Adam nor Eve wanted to take responsibility for his or her actions. Both Adam and Eve tried to dodge responsibility for having chosen to disobey God. They made the situation worse and added a second sin to their list by not coming clean and confessing their wrong behavior to God.
When you get busted for disobeying your parents, teachers, or God, remember the warning found in Matthew 12:37 – “For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.” Don’t make the situation worse by adding lying or blaming other people to your list of sins. Admit your mistake. Ask for forgiveness and take steps to make things right again.
“Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the LORD’ – and you forgave the guilt of my sin. Selah” Psalm 32:5
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to always take responsibility for my sin and not blame others for my actions. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
