Bible Reading: 1 John 4:7-21
There are lots of ways to ruin a friendship:
* Make thoughtless statements and hurtful remarks.
* Be inconsiderate of your friends’ feelings.
* Put down the things that are important to your friends.
* Ignore your friends when they offer you wise advice.
There is only one way to avoid those mistakes. That is to obey verse 7 of today’s Bible reading, which says, “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.” Treating your friends with the love and respect with which you wish to be treated will keep you from messing up your friendships and allow you to build up your friendships instead.
Let’s all pray and ask God to help us to treat our friends, neighbors, and even our enemies with love and respect, as He has commanded us to do.
“Love your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 19:19b
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to always treat my friends the way I want to be treated. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
