Breath of Life

Bible Reading: Psalm 135:15-17

Look around your room at all of the inanimate things you own. Can any of them breath?

Owning things is okay. Things add variety to life and give us enjoyment. However, if we

rely on things to provide all of the happiness, peace, love, contentment, and security we need, we will be terribly disappointed. Things can never give us joy, love, contentment, or security. Things are breathless, lifeless, dead. Today’s Bible reading describes the lifelessness of manmade things well. These verses say, “The idols of the nations are silver and gold, made by the hands of men. They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but they cannot see; they have ears, but cannot hear, nor is there breath in their mouth.”

Jesus is the only true source of the happiness, love, contentment, and security. Jesus IS the very Breath of Life. Only by being fill with the Breath of Life, Jesus’ Holy Spirit, can we experience the level of joy, love, contentment, and security that we want and that God wants us to have.

“The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life.” Job 33:4

Prayer: Heavenly Father, fill me with the Breath of Life so I can live life to it’s fullest both now and in eternity. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
