Attractions or Distractions

Bible Reading: Ecclesiastes 3:13

Think about your hobbies and the other things that you enjoy doing. Do those activities help you relax? Do they enhance and enrich your life and your friendships? Do they give

you opportunities to be a living witness and attract others to Christ?

If so, great! God wants us to enjoy living. Ecclesiastes 3:13 says, “That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil-this is the gift of God.” Enjoying life is a gift from God. God also wants the things that we enjoy doing to be fabulous attractions.

Do your hobbies and other interests monopolize your life, sapping your time, money, or energy, leaving you with little left to share with others or to use to do God’s work? Do they keep you so busy, distracted, or self-absorbed that you don’t have time for Bible reading, prayer, church, friends, family, or even a few quiet minutes alone with God?

If so, they are destroying your life, not decorating it. They are driving a wedge between you and God and between you and other people rather than being ways for you to draw yourself and others closer to God. Ditch those distractions – fast!

“I am saying this for your benefit, not to place restrictions on you. I want you to do whatever will help you serve the Lord best, with as few distractions as possible.” 1 Corinthians 7:35 NLT

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the activities that enhance my life. Use them to attract attention to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
