Are You a Whiner or a Winner?

Bible Reading: James 5:9

“No one understands me.”

Does that describe how you feel?

We all want other people to understand and empathize with our feelings. When we feel misunderstood, it can be frustrating, irritating, and even aggravating. It can also seem lonely.

However, sometimes our desire to be understood becomes a whine. We begin to selfishly think only of our desire to be understood. We turn ourselves into victims who constantly complain because we aren’t getting what we want and grumblers who blame others for not giving us what we feel we deserve.

Joseph could easily have fallen into that trap after all he went through (Read Genesis 37-50) and Jesus, Himself, was misunderstood by most of the people around Him. These men didn’t allow themselves to turn into whiners. Instead, they kept their minds on God’s plan and trusted that God understood them even when other people didn’t. They knew that with God on their side, they didn’t have to be whiners because they were winners!

I hope you and I will be like Joseph. I hope we will listen to the instructions of James 5:9 and not“…grumble against each other…or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door!”

“Do everything without complaining or arguing…” Philippians 2:14

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to be content at all times. Help me to banish complaints from my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
