Approach with Caution

Bible Reading: Job 20:5-7a

Job 20:5-7a describes the behavior of wicked people, saying, “That the mirth of the wicked is brief, the joy of the godless lasts but a moment. Though his pride reaches to

the heavens and his head touches the clouds, he will perish forever, like his own dung…” This behavior is obviously displeasing to God.

What is a Christian to do? God wants Christians to tell people about Jesus. To do that, we need to spend time with them. How can we be with them without becoming like them?

While we need to spend some time with non-Christians in order to share the good news about Jesus with them, we need to approach witnessing to the unsaved with caution. We need to take steps so that we don’t let them influence us more than we influence them. We don’t want to end up duplicating their disobedient behavior because evil, disobedient behavior has disastrous results.

Here are a few precautions to take before spending time with non-Christians:

1. Put on the Armor of God. Pray, memorize scripture, know what the Bible teaches.

2. Surround yourself with Christian friends. Spend more time with other Christians that you spend with non-Christians to help you keep your perspective and balance.

3. Call in backup. Don’t go it alone. Take a group of Christian friends with you when you go to speak to non-Christians about Jesus.

“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.” Ephesians 5:8-11

Prayer: Heavenly Father, use me to reach others for Jesus and protect me from evil influences while I’m doing Your work. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
