Amen!

Bible Reading: Psalm 106:48

Psalm 106:48 is a brief prayer of praise to God which says, “Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Let all the people say, ‘Amen!’ Praise the

LORD.” The “Amen” in this verse is one of 52 “amens” found in the New International Version of the Bible.

Amen isn’t just saying “The End” when you pray.

Saying amen means that you mean what you said. Saying amen is the same as signing your name on a contract. Just as your signature at the bottom of an important contract “seals the deal” and shows that you agree with the terms of the contract, saying amen “seals the deal” that you just discussed with God. It says that you agree with God that you need His help. It says that you agree with God that only He is capable of answering your prayer. It says that you believe that God not only can answer your prayer, but that He will answer your prayer.

Some people say amen is saying, “so be it”. In other words, “God, however you choose to work out the things I’ve asked you for, that’s the answer I want, that’s the way I want things to be.”

Amen is one of the many names given to Jesus in the Bible. Jesus is called the Amen because he is the perfect faithful witness before God and all creation.

Take some time right now to pray, and when you say amen think carefully about the importance of and value of the agreement you just made with God.

“…to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.” Jude 25

Prayer: Heavenly Father, You truly are the perfect God. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
