How to Resist Temptation

Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 10:13

What is your favorite food, the one that it would be the hardest to say, “No,” to if someone offered it to you? Is it chocolate cake? Steak? Ice cream? Pizza?

Whatever your favorite food, there comes a time when, for one reason or anther, you know it is in your best interest to not eat it at that time. When that happens, you have several ways out of that tempting situation. You can simply say, “No, thank you.” You can excuse yourself from the table or leave the room or you can save your “treat” for a more appropriate time.

When we are faced with any temptation, any inappropriate, dangerous, unethical, or immoral situation, God always – always – sees to it that there is a way out. That’s what 1 Corinthians 10:13 says: “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.” God never allows us to be tempted by anything to any extent that He knows we can’t handle.

The next time you are tempted to do something that you know you shouldn’t do, look for the way out – it will be there! God will show you the way out.

“Because he [Jesus] himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.” Hebrews 2:18

Prayer: Heavenly Father, open my eyes to that I can see the way out of any temptation that I face. Show me the way out. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
