Rich or Poor

Bible Reading: James 2:5

Do you think of yourself as poor? Rejoice! James 2:5 says, “Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to

inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him?”

The word poor doesn’t necessarily refer exclusively to a person with no money. The word poor is also used to describe a common, ordinary person, a person who has to work hard for a living.

Jesus didn’t treat the poor and better or any worse than He treated the wealthy. Jesus taught all people about God and heaven. Jesus respected all people. Jesus loved all people. Jesus came to give all people, including ordinary, working people – poor people – freedom from their sin and offer them an extraordinary life in heaven. Jesus chose the poor to be heirs to God’s heavenly kingdom.

Praise God! While we may seem poor to the world, if we have Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we are truly rich!

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:3

Prayer: Heavenly Father, Thank You for the riches I have through my relationship with Jesus Christ. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
