Bible Reading: Ephesians 2:8, 9
Are you self-sufficient? Are you an “I-can-do-it-myself” kind of person?
Being responsible for your actions is good. God wants us to do that.
Being too proud to admit that we aren’t good enough and can’t do enough good things to get us into heaven isn’t good. In fact, it is sin.
We are all sinners. None of us is good enough to make it into heaven on our own. In fact, Ephesians 2:8 & 9 tell us, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.” None of us can “buy” our way into heaven regardless of how many good things we do or how “good” those things are. We can’t get ourselves into heaven.
In order to go to heaven, we must set aside our “I-can-do-it-myself” attitude and go to Christ for help. Only by admitting that we need help and by accepting Jesus’ death as the payment that allows us to go to heaven can we be forgiven for our sin of self-sufficiency and all of our other sins.
Have you accepted Christ or are you still trying to get to heaven on the “I can do it myself” plan?
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” Romans 3:23 & 24
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I admit I’ve sinned and I can’t get to heaven on my own. Thank your for saving me by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
