Wednesday at the Well: 1 Peter 5:6-11 - Suffering

Bible Verses to Explore: 1 Peter 5:6-11

Sickness. War. Famine. Violence. Why does God allow these terrible things to happen?

When God created this world, he planned for it to be perfect. Then sin came into the world. People began to choose to follow Satan, not God. Verse 8 says that Satan is going

“around like a roaring lion looking for someone to attack and eat.” Verse 9 tells us we should “Refuse to follow the devil. Stand strong in your faith.” Thankfully, Satan will only have control for a short time. Verse 10 tells us that soon, “God will make everything right.” Remember, God has lived forever and will continue to live forever, so even a thousand years is a short time to him.

God is eager to have everyone in heaven with him so that no one will have to suffer horrible things forever. God is allowing us to suffer for a short time here on earth so we may have time to persuade as many people as possible to accept Christ as their Savior.

Suffering is hard. Be patient. We will only suffer a little longer so that many more people will be saved from suffering forever.

Please keep the encouraging words of 1 Peter 5:10 in mind, especially when you are struggling or going through a difficult stage of life: “Yes, you will suffer for a short time. But after that, God will make everything right. He will make you strong. He will support you and keep you from falling. He is the God who gives all grace. He chose you to share in his glory in Christ. That glory will continue forever.”

Please pray with me. Heavenly Father, thank you for wonderful life that’s waiting for us in heaven. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

I encourage you to download the Inductive Study Guide and dig deeper into today’s scripture verses so you will be stronger and better able to rely on God when struggles and difficult situations arise.

God bless!
