Bible Reading: 1 Peter 1:18, 19
Imagine that your car (or some other prized possession) was stolen. What would you do if the person who stole it offered to sell the car back to you? How would you feel about
having to buy back something that already belonged to you?
That’s exactly what God did when He sent His Son, Jesus, to die for your sins (and mine).
God created us. We belonged to Him. Then sin came along and stole us away from God.
The only way God could get us back was to buy us back, or redeem us. But, “…it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect” (1 Peter 1:18 & 19). The price that God had to pay to have us back was to send someone else to be punished in our place for our participation in sin. There was only one person who could pay that price – Jesus. The sinless, perfect Son of God died so that God could have what already belonged to Him – you and me. That’s exactly what Romans 3:24-25a tells us: “…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood.”
Tell God that you believe that Jesus paid the price to buy back what was already His -- you. He is waiting with open arms to welcome you home.
“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us.” 1 John 3:16
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I’m so glad that You bought me back. I’m looking forward to my heavenly home. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
