It's Not Fair!

Updated: Mar 25, 2020

Bible Reading: Philippians 2:6-8

Philippians 2:6-8 describe Jesus sacrifice this way: “[Jesus] Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing,

taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death – even death on a cross.”

Jesus, an innocent man, was punished by being nailed to a cross where He died for the offenses committed by you and me and the rest of the people of the world.

That was terribly unfair!

Jesus should not have had to die. Jesus was innocent of all crimes. Jesus had committed no sins. Jesus had obeyed God perfectly and completely. It was unfair for Jesus to be ridiculed in our place. It was unfair for Jesus to be beaten in our place. It was unfair that Jesus was nailed to a cross and died in our place, but fairness had nothing to do with Jesus’ mistreatment while He was here on earth and fairness had nothing to do with His death on the cross.

Jesus chose to be treated unfairly, to be ridiculed, beaten, and executed in our place – because He loves us so deeply.

What happened to Jesus had nothing to do with fairness – and everything to do with love.

“Christ never sinned! But God treated him as a sinner, so that Christ could make us acceptable to God.” 2 Corinthians 5:21 CEV

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I’m sorry Jesus was treated so unfairly because of me. I’m also glad He allowed Himself to be treated unfairly for me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
