Wednesday at the Well: 1 Peter 1:5-7 - Life's Lumps

Updated: Mar 25, 2020

Bible Verses to Explore: 1 Peter 1:5-7

Suppose you lay down on your bed and discovered it was hard and lumpy. Would you feel comfortable? No. Would you sleep well? No. You would be uncomfortable. You

would want to get out of bed and find a different place to sleep or find something different to do.

Problems, sickness, pain, and other hard times are like those lumps. They make us uncomfortable. They make us dissatisfied with our lives. They make us want to get up and do something different with our lives.

1 Peter 1:7 says, “These troubles test your faith and prove that it is pure. And such faith

is worth more than gold. Gold can be proved to be pure by fire, but gold will ruin. When your faith is proven to be pure, the result will be praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ comes.” The “lumps” in our lives challenge our faith and make us grow stronger spiritually. When our faith becomes stronger, we honor Jesus.

Is your life full of lumps right now?

Ask God to help you to continue obeying and serving him during the “lumpy” times. Ask him to help you honor him with your life. Cling to the promise in Philippians 1:29: “God has blessed you in ways that serve Christ. He allowed you to believe in Christ. But that is not all. He has also given you the honor of suffering for Christ. Both of these bring glory to Christ.”

Please pray with me. Heavenly Father, help us to obey and serve You even when life is hard. Please, be honored by our lives. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
