Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
When the Bible was written, exercise wasn’t an issue. Just going through their daily activities was exercise enough for the people of Jesus’ day. Carrying water, scrubbing
clothes, plowing, walking to and from town, everything the people did was active and required using their muscles regularly.
Our lives have changed a great deal. We are much more sedentary. We sit in school and in our offices. We sit while we watch TV and work at the computer. We have modern machines that scrub our clothes and water available at the turn of a handle. If we don’t intentionally plan to do some kind of physical activity to give our bodies the exercise they need, we probably won’t get it.
In 1 Corinthians 6:19 & 20 Paul asks this question, “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.” As Christians our bodies don’t belong to us, they belong to God. They belong to God. Our bodies are God’s temple. He created them and bought them back from sin with the blood of His Son, Jesus. We need to take care of them for Him.
What are you doing to keep God’s “temple” in good repair?
“Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for God's temple is sacred, and you are that temple.” 1 Corinthians 3:16 & 17
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the body You’ve given me to live in here on earth. I’ll work to take good care of it. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
