The Rules are Black & White

Updated: Mar 25, 2020

Bible Reading: Acts 4:12 & Romans 3:23

A basketball player aims for the hoop. He jumps. He shoots. The ball hits the rim, rolls around the basket and…falls to the floor outside the hoop. The shot was so-o-o

close! The ball almost went through the hoop. The player almost scored…so why not just give him the points? After all, he was really trying hard. He gave his best.

Of course, basketball’s rules say that the ball must go through the hoop. Regardless how close the shot was or how long the ball rolled around on the edge of the rim, if the ball doesn’t go through the hoop, no points are scored. The rules of basketball are black and white; there is no gray area.

God’s rules are also black and white. Accept Jesus and receive eternal life in heaven OR reject Jesus and miss your shot at going to

Heaven – black and white, no gray. “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

Please, accept the truth that “all have sinned and fall short…” (Romans 3:23). Stop trying to take your best shot. Jesus is your only shot.

“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” John 14:6

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I understand Your rules. I know my choices. I choose Jesus and eternal life in heaven. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
