Wednesday at the Well: 1 Peter 1:8 - Is God Real?

Updated: Mar 25, 2020

Welcome to the first Wednesday at the Well column of 2020! I am looking forward to another exciting year in God's word. I hope you are, too. I also hope you will continue to join me every Wednesday for a fresh Wednesday at the Well Bible study so we can explore God's word together. Let's get started!

Bible Verses to Explore: 1 Peter 1:8

Do you know someone who doubts that God is real? You can help him to believe that God is real. How? Ask him these questions:

1. “Do you believe that air is real?”

2. “Do you believe that gravity holds you down on the ground?”

3. “Do you believe helium can make a balloon float away?”

4. “Do you believe a magnet can pick up a nail?”

5. “Do you believe that germs can make you sick?”

Explain that he believes those things because he has faith that they exist because he sees the evidence. He hears the wind in the trees. He sees himself and the things around him stay on the ground. He sees the helium-filled balloon float away. He sees the magnet pick-up the nail. He feels sick when germs have

entered his body.

Gently explain that we believe that God is real for the same reason: We see, hear, and touch the evidence. We see all of the things God has created. We hear the birds sing and thunder crash. We feel the wind, rain, and sun on our skin. Just as Peter wrote in today’s verse, “You have not seen Christ, but still you love him. You can't see him now, but you believe in him.” Oh, and don’t forget Jesus’ words in John 20:29 – “You believe because you see me. Great blessings belong to the people who believe without seeing me!”

Please pray with me…

Heavenly Father, I do believe that You are real. Forgive my doubts. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
