Bible Reading: Luke 2:10
Let’s continue our discussion of Christmas “aftershocks” by reading Luke 2:10. Here’s what this verse says: “But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of
great joy that will be for all the people.” Clearly, the birth of Jesus was good news. It was cause for great joy. I can only imagine the excitement, happiness, and rejoicing that took place in that small stable around the food trough that held a small baby, a baby who was, in reality, the Son of God.
This joy wasn’t a one-time occurrence. The joy that was born on that first Christmas should continue to ripple through our lives like the aftershock of an earthquake ripples through the earth.
That doesn’t mean we will be happy 100% of the time. That is impossible. Happiness is an emotion that comes and goes with our changing circumstances.
Joy, however, is a constant. Joy is an attitude of the heart and mind. Joy says, no matter what happens, I can confidently trust God to take care of me and work things out for the best. Joy is the contented assurance that God is in control of all circumstances…even providing a bed for a baby born in a stable…even providing for your smallest need.
Do you trust God? Do you deeply, sincerely, genuinely trust God? If so, your trust will be apparent by the cheerful mindset that you display in your everyday living as joy ripples through the life you are living for Christ.
“Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.” 1 Peter 1:8 & 9
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the in my life that comes from my faith in Jesus. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
