Bible Reading: Deuteronomy 11:1-17
You’ve made your decision. You’ve asked God to forgive your sins and turned your life over to Jesus Christ by accepting Him as your Lord and Savior. Now you’re ready to
receive God’s best for your life. We are calling that salvation’s “aftershocks.” How can we be sure that we will continue experiencing these aftershocks? That’s what we will talk about in the remainder of this series.
The first aftershock of our salvation is our gratitude to God for saving us. In order to hold on to that gratitude and not let it slip away amidst the busyness of our day-to-day lives is to remember.
Deuteronomy 11:1 & 2 say, “Love the LORD your God and keep his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands always. Remember today that your children were not the ones who saw and experienced the discipline of the LORD your God.” Moses wrote these words to encourage God’s people to remember what God had done for them in the past so they would be continually grateful and would keep trusting and obeying God in the future.
We need to heed Moses’ advice, too. We need to remember all that God has done for us, starting with our salvation and including all of the good things He has given to us and done for us. We need to remember what we owe God. We owe Him our physical existence and our eternal lives of faithful love, trust, and obedience. We need to remember that obeying God brings great reward.
What will you do to help you always remember God and His goodness to you?
“Remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.” Ephesians 2:12 & 13
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for all You and your Son, Jesus, have done for me. Help me to always remember and always trust & obey You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
