Focus on God This Christmas

Updated: Mar 25, 2020

This is the first article of the Christmas season here at PH121. I hope you will stick with me throughout this Christmas season, read each devotional article, and received the blessing God wants to give you each day. Merry Christmas!!

Bible Reading: Daniel 1:8

Daniel had a big problem. He was a prisoner in Babylon along with hundreds of other Jews. On top of that, the king had ordered that Daniel and many of his fellow

prisoners be fed food that God had forbidden them to eat.

Daniel had to make a choice. He could have simply obeyed the king and eaten the king’s food. he could have sat and worried and fretted about the problem, trying to find a way out of the situation on his own. Instead, Daniel chose to trust God and obey His commands. Daniel 1:8 says, “Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way.”

How was Daniel able to act with such confidence? He focused on God and God’s plan, not the problem he faced. He didn’t grouse or complain. He didn’t sulk or worry or fret. He focused on honoring God.

We all have problems. We all face difficult challenges. We all have to make hard choices. Let’s pray that we will have Daniel’s courage and wisdom so we will faithfully make choices out of obedience to God, no matter how difficult or frightening the situation may be. Let's keep our focus on God this Christmas Season and all year long.

“Who, then, are those who fear the Lord? He will instruct them in the ways they should choose.” Psalm 25:12

Prayer: Heavenly Father, give me courage like Daniel to always make choices that honor You and are in obedience to Your will for my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
