Fight the Urge!

Updated: Mar 25, 2020

Bible Reading: Romans 6:12

“Late one afternoon David got out of bed after taking a nap and went for a stroll on the roof of the palace. As he looked out over the city, he noticed a woman of unusual beauty taking

a bath. He sent someone to find out who she was and he was told, ‘She is Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite.’

Then David sent for her “and when she came to the palace, he slept with her” (2 Samuel 11:2-4, NLT).

David didn’t control his body’s urges. He didn’t heed Paul’s warning in Romans 6:12 which says, “Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.” Instead, David acted rashly, letting his body control him.

Consequently, an honorable man was murdered and an innocent baby, the child conceived by David’s sexual sin, died.

Your ability or inability to control your body’s urges will have lasting affects on you and anyone you draw into your wrong behavior. Maybe the consequences won’t be as tragic or as obvious as the consequences David suffered…then again, they might. When it comes to sin, you and I need to fight the urge.

“So think clearly and exercise self-control. Look forward to the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world.” 1 Peter 1:13

Prayer: Heavenly Father, give me the power to fight my body’s urges and do what I know to be right. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
