Bible Reading: Isaiah 30:20-21
When your stomach aches or your head throbs, you know that something is wrong. The pain in your body is a warning sign; a necessary evil that alerts you to a problem in
your body that needs attention. Often when we take quick action to find the source of the pain and do whatever is necessary to treat it, the pain goes away.
Sometimes God uses painful things to get our attention. Isaiah 30:20 & 21 describe these things like this: “Although the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers will be hidden no more; with your own eyes you will see them. Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’” These “spiritual warning signs” let us know that our spiritual lives need attention or to alert us that sin is creeping into our lives.
Spending more time in Bible reading, talking to God, listening to and following His instructions, and serving others by meeting their physical and spiritual needs are all good “medicine” for spiritual illness and affliction.
I pray that we will stay close to God and use all of the things He’s given us to keep safe. I pray that we will stand firm in our faith and not let sin’s sickness creep into our lives. I pray that we will all remain alert and beware of sin’s warning signs.
“So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled.” 1 Thessalonians 5:6
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me always remain alert and beware of sin’s warning signs in my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
