How to Survive Ruined Weekends

Updated: Mar 25, 2020

Bible Reading: 2 Corinthians 5:1

Imagine that you are camping for a weekend in a tent. Now imagine that it starts raining or you begin to feel sick or you realize you forgot to pack enough food or the tent

springs a leak.

You decide to cut your weekend short and head for home, but your car won’t start or the bridge is washed out or the nearby lodge is booked full.

Ruined weekend plans are frustrating, but we manage to get through them because we know that the weekend will end soon and we will be back home, safe, warm, and well.

When the troubles, stresses, and illnesses of life begin to frustrate you, remember that life here on earth is like that weekend camping trip. It will soon be over. 2 Corinthians 5:1 tells us, “Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.” This earth and everything in it, including our physical bodies is temporary, but God has an eternal home, complete with a flawless eternal body, waiting for us.

To claim that home, all we need to do is “confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead,” (Romans 10:9).

“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.” Philippians 3:20 & 21

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I’m glad that life’s struggles are a temporary. Thank You for the perfect, eternal body and home that are waiting for me in heaven. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
