Bible Reading: 1 Chronicles 16:11
Most of us have heard stories of people who get up at 4:00 or 5:00 am or stay up into the wee hours to have their quiet time with God. Then there are those people who
pray for 1, 2, or even 3 hours every day.
Does God really expect that of each one of us? Are we failing as Christians if we aren’t that “devoted”?
God’s plans, instructions, and expectations for each one of us are unique. While some things like admitting we’ve sinned, accepting Christ as our Savior, and giving God control of our lives are required of all of us, other issues, like when and how to have a quiet time with God, are more personal.
Don’t worry about trying to be as “devoted” as that 5:00 am Bible reader or that three-hour prayer warrior. As long as you are looking to the Lord for strength, seeking His will for your life, and listening to and obeying His instructions for you, He will let you know what He expects of you. As long as you do as 1 Chronicles 16:11 advises and “Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always,” you are right where God wants you.
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:33 & 34
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I’m listening for Your instructions. I will obey and follow them. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
