Wednesday at the Well: Matthew 5:10-12 - Great Reward

Updated: Mar 25, 2020

Bible Verses to Explore: Matthew 5:10-12

In today’s Bible reading Jesus tells us about a wonderful promise God made. God promised to give us, His children, a great reward.

What do we have to do to receive this great reward?

First, we must tell God that we are sorry for all of the bad things we have done. We must ask God to forgive us. Then God will give us the Holy Spirit to live in our hearts.

Second, we must suffer. Jesus had to suffer while He was here on earth. People teased Him. People hit Him. People beat Him. People did awful things to Jesus. Jesus suffered for us.

Now it is our turn. We must suffer for Jesus. Jesus said in Matthew 5:11 & 12, “People will insult you and hurt you. They will lie and say all kinds of evil things about you because you follow me. But when they do that, know that great blessings belong to you. Be happy about it. Be

very glad because you have a great reward waiting for you in heaven. People did these same bad things to the prophets who lived before you.”

The next time someone teases you because you believe in Jesus, remember the great reward God is planning to give you!

Let’s celebrate the promise Jesus gave to us in Matthew 5:10, “Great blessings belong to those who suffer persecution for doing what is right. God's kingdom belongs to them,” then take time to download the Inductive Study Guide and let God strengthen us so we can withstand whatever the world throws at us. Let’s pray. Heavenly Father, help us to continue serving You even when people tease or ridicule us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
