Worshipful Devotions

Updated: Mar 26, 2020

Bible Reading: 1 Chronicles 16:25

Our God is a Great and Awesome God! Every believer in Jesus should want to spend time with God and in His word every day,“For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; he

is to be feared above all gods” (1 Chronicles 16:25).

Daily devotions should be more than mindlessly reading a verse and praying. Devotions are an opportunity to focus on personally worshiping God.

Begin “Worshipful Devotions” by reminding yourself of how unworthy you are. Then turn your focus on how merciful, graceful, forgiving, and totally worthy God is.

Select a Bible verse that highlights the contrast between your imperfection and God’s perfection. Write it on a 3x5 card and keep it in your Bible. Better yet, memorize it! Read or recite this as a way to focus your thoughts and as a prayer-starter.

Continue praying, telling God what you’ve done recently that shows your unworthiness, asking His forgiveness, and thanking Him for it. Then tell God what makes Him great and thank Him for those things.

Next, praise God for His forgiving Spirit, mercy, grace, kindness, and patience by doing one of the following:

* Write about God’s virtues in a song, poem, prayer, or letter.

* Sing or listen to a song that tells of God’s greatness.

* Use Genesis 32:10; 1 Chronicles 6:25; Psalm 25:6, 7; Job 30:18, 19; or some other verse that expresses God’s unique worthiness and magnificence as a prayer.

Finally, spend a few minutes reading the Bible, God’s message to you and thanking Him for that message.

“Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the LORD our Maker.” Psalm 95:6

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me the opportunity to spend time worshipping and adoring You every day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
