Bible Reading: Hebrews 4:14 & 16
Many years ago, spending time with God wasn’t easy. In fact, access to God was limited – only the High Priest was allowed to go into God’s presence, and he was only
permitted to go there once a year. Access to God also cost a high price – the blood of an animal sacrificed on the altar.
Jesus changed all that. Hebrews 4:14 & 16 tell us, “Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess…Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Jesus is the only mediator we need. Thanks to Jesus, we no longer need another person to go to God for us. Instead, we have free, unlimited access to God.
This access came at a high price: Jesus’ shed blood. Jesus became the ultimate High Priest. He offered Himself as the final sacrifice for all of our sins. Then Jesus returned to heaven and sent the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit fills an individual’s heart, he or she gains free access to God. He or she can go into God’s presence at anytime, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Have you asked God to forgive your sins and claimed Jesus’ death and blood as the payment for your sins?
Have you broken free of the old system and accepted the gift of free, unlimited access to God?
“For through him [Jesus] we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.” Ephesians 2:18
Prayer: Heavenly Father, forgive my sins and give me free, unlimited access to God through Jesus’ shed blood. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
