Bible Reading: Proverbs 17:27
I have a friend who is very sensitive. If someone was to swear at her or say some other cruel, unkind words to her, they might as well punch her in the stomach. That’s the
kind of pain that thoughtless words inflict on her.
While not everyone is as sensitive to unkind words as my friend is, it is still our responsibility as Christians to treat them as if they were. We need to be sensitive to their feelings. Proverbs 17:27 gives us this advice: “A man of knowledge uses words with restraint, and a man of understanding is even-tempered.” As Christians, every word we speak should be chosen wisely and filled with kindness and compassion. If our words aren’t chosen with the greatest care, we are no different that an ill-tempered fool.
Do you occasionally (or more often) say things to others without considering their feelings?
I hope you and I will always be sensitive to the feelings of other people.
“Be kind and compassionate to one another…” Ephesians 4:32
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to always think before I speak. Help me to use my words to build up and not tear down. Help me to be sensitive to the feelings of others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
